Get to Know Ultrasound Therapy
Ultrasound treatment is a well-known, non-invasive, generally painless, and safe method. Inside, an electrical charge is applied to a crystal, creating a piezoelectric effect, which then produces ultrasonic waves. Sound waves cannot be heard, but they can penetrate deep tissues, creating microscopic gas bubbles near the injury site that rapidly expand and contract. This process is called cavitation. Cavitation is believed to enhance cellular function and accelerate the healing process in the injured body part.
The advantages of ultrasound therapy include massaging and heating effects. It can stimulate blood flow, help relieve pain, improve circulation, and promote tissue healing.
It has been FDA approved to help treat a variety of pain conditions. Therapists typically offer ultrasound therapy to help individuals manage pain and improve mobility, etc.

High-frequency Ultrasound for Therapeutic Effect
An ultrasound therapy device delivers sound waves in a frequency range between 1 to 3 MHz, providing therapeutic effects. It can be utilized in both outpatient settings and at home.
Therapeutic ultrasound has been used in physical therapy clinics for over 50 years.
They are ideal for treating musculoskeletal disorders, both chronic and acute, such as sports injuries, muscle strains, tendinitis, and arthritis.
Contraindications of Ultrasound Unit
- This device should not be used for symptomatic local pain relief unless etiology is established or unless a pain syndrome has been diagnosed.
- Should not be used when cancerous lesions are present in the treatment area
- Should not be used when open wounds are present in the treatment area
- Should not be used on patients suspected of carrying serious infectious disease
- Should not be used on patients with epileptics, heart disease, phlebitis, thrombophlebitis or serious illnesses.
